MACRO Fest!

It took place this past weekend in Casco Viejo (Panama City, Panama). What an experience.

The whole Plaza Herrera was transformed into a sick art show. I loved it. Paintings and photographs all over the place, F-A-S-H-I-O-N, DJ’s playing awesome music, drinks, great vibe… Ah, does it get any better? Certainly it DOES! On Friday, after the fashion show was over, the panamanian band Cienfue took over the stage and absolutely KILLED it! Now, I had never seen them live but according to my friends this was probably one of their best performances. The music was just, wow; the public was thrilled, you could feel the energy. That’s what I love about concerts. So many people in sync…

After the band was done playing my friend Jo-Ann (who apparently is Cienfue’s niece) guided me and my friends backstage to meet Camilo Navarro (that’s also the name he goes by). We got to talk to him, tell him we’re his obsessive compulsive Twitter fans and we even got to take pictures with him!

He was really nice to all of us, and apparently he liked the pictures I took, too! Plus, he didn’t seem freaked out after meeting his personal stalkers so that’s good! Haha.

Moving on, Saturday night was just as fun! We got there early and even though some friends had trouble getting to the festival (apparently they wouldn’t let minors in), they didn’t even bother to ask us for any type of ID. We had planned to pretend we were international students from Tallahassee in case they did, but that wasn’t necessary.
Bumped into people, saw some of the fashion shows. Gotta say, there was this one designer who practically thought he was Alexander McQueen. Not cool. Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean you can just go ahead and copy him.

When the shows were over, a random (yet really AWESOME) DJ did his thing for a while, then Señor Loop (another panamanian band) got on stage and performed what apparently was a police intervention…
Yeah, the cops showed up and tried to stop the concert before it even started. It was so odd. But they played like 3 songs anyway, ’cause they’re such rebels. I hadn’t even heard of that band until earlier that day, but it was a really good show, love their work. And luckily they played the only song I had looked up on YouTube haha. They also played a new, unreleased song which was pretty neat if you ask me. Then they announced a concert in the beach that I’m DEFINITELY attending, and that was it for the MACRO Fest.

It was a really cool event in general, Panama needs more of this! It’s good for young artists to expose their work, and it’s just… Something different. Panama could use a bit of ”different” every once in a while, don’t you think?

Have you ever wished you could meet someone “famous”? I know I have. I know everyone I know has. Most of the times, though, our “dream person” is either utterly unreachable (Lady Gaga in my case) or dead (Audrey Hepburn, James Dean). Karen Alloy has the chance to meet THE ONE person in the entertainment industry she looks up to, which happens to be Conan O’Brien! The difference with Karen is that she’s got us KarenMonsters to support her dream and it’s actually kind of easy to achieve — all we have to do is spam the hell out of him on Twitter, ’cause he happens to be going to Minneapolis soon.

Karen’s goal is to get him to visit her and film a piece of work together (YouTube video, BlogTV webcast). We’ve been hanging out on BlogTV

So there! Conan O’Brien, if you’re reading this, watch Karen’s video! SHE HAS AN EMMY!!!

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Gaga fan. I had been anxiously waiting for this video to come out for AGES. I must admit I wasn’t crazy about it when I first saw it but after watching it at least 100k times in a day it’s definitely grown on me to say the least.

Update: The video has reached 5,100,000 million views in less than 24 hours and I’m one hundred percent sure I’m responsible for about 2 million views. Fun stuff!

Hey there! It’s been quite a while.
It’s not that I didn’t remember I had this blog, but I guess I’ve been busy? Hahaha. Let’s see. I’ll try to summarize the last few months:

[Friends]: I’ve lost some, I’ve gained some more. I’ve had fights and kiss&make-up’s. Hey! That’s life! It’s funny how the friends you thought would be with you forever after high school was over are always the first ones to go.

[School]: High school is FINALLY OVER! I’m in college now. Florida State University. I’m only taking 3 courses because I’m not going to finish my major here, I’m just spending time in FSU before I leave to Boston in June. I’m taking General Psychology (I absolutely LOVE this. I’m almost 100% sure my minor will be psychology), College Algebra and Composition&Rhetoric. What can I say. I love college. I’ve met so many interesting people, and it’s just such a different world. I’m really glad high school is over!

[Work]: Woah, gotta say, it feels GREAT to add a ”Work” category. Hahaha. For those of you who don’t know me, I really like photography. I guess it’s not considered as a job because I’m not getting any money out of it, it’s basically me doing what I love. Anyways, I’ve evolved so much as a photographer! I got a new camera as my graduation present, it’s the Nikon D90. And to be honest at the beginning I was a bit skeptical about it ’cause I didn’t believe I was doing /that/ better. But I’m slowly starting to agree with everyone else – I’ve grown up as an artist these past months. Here’s a preview of my recent work:

Other than that, here are some other things I have LOVED these past months!

– GroceryBagTV: These guys are AMAZING! I had the honor to talk to them on iChat last night, I’m not sure which one I talked to but either way, whoever it was, was really nice! They’re both so unique and creative, love their work. [short films, photography, music, video blogs.] Make sure to check them out if you’re into artsy crap like I am! Haha.

– Lady Gaga: I love this human being. Enough said. I’m obsessed. Everyone knows so I just won’t talk about it anymore.

– La Mala Educación (Bad Education): I discovered this movie because someone tweeted about it and the title caught my attention. Decided it looked interesting enough to watch, and I’m so glad I did! It’s brilliant, BRILLIANT! My favorite movie will always be Breakfast at Tiffany’s but this one is the definition of genius.

Me and my friend Alexandra will be working on a new project soon, it will be sort of a fashion/pop culture blog. I’m really excited, I’ll make sure to blog about it once it’s done.

The Future

School starts again tomorrow, after two weeks of freedom. I won’t lie, I really needed these vacations. I feel stronger and ready to face whatever life brings. But here I am, freaking out like a little kid.

I guess it’s the fact that this is the last time I’ll worry about these things. The fact that high school is almost over and I’m still not sure about my future (Why do I need to know every single detail anyways?)…

Lying on my back; my heart beating so fast I feel my bed is moving, I realize I’m not as mature as I think I am.

I still have a lot to learn about everything, and I’ll do it one step at a time.

It’s funny how I think my anxiety would disappear if I knew what’s happening next. But me, I’m just a human being. This is what we do.

VACATIONS, baby!

I’m officially free for the next two weeks, ignoring a couple of projects I have to work on. I’m SO thrilled! I was starting to feel suicidal already. Lol, not really; I’m just really tired of high school..

I plan to get a tan, driving lessons & paperwork… I think I’ll lose some weight too.
Tomorrow night is my cousin’s wedding reception, I guess I /have/ to go, even though I hate weddings, HATE weddings (hence the RED BOLD FONT); but he’s my cousin and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime-event so…
Rori’s gone. She’s in Spain right now, bitch didn’t even wait a day after school ended, lol. I’m gonna miss her… Thank Jebus for Blackberry Messenger.

As a side note, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland trailer was just released! It looks BRILLIANT! Can’t wait. Here it is:

I’m really excited because I love Tim Burton’s work and I’ve always been a fan of Alice in Wonderland, ever since I was a kid; so basically those 2 things put together = love. Plus, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Anne Hathaway are ALL in it! It just HAS to be a great movie. Chances are I’ll obsess over it for a looooooong time.

Hey people!

Albus Dumbledore

I just got home from watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I must admit I was kind of anxious about watching it, first of all, because I missed the premiere! I had never missed a Harry Potter premiere before! NEVER-EVER. Second, everyone who assisted the premiere hated the movie, so I was like ”Uh, maybe I waited in vain”. I didn’t. I absolutely LOVED it! I feel like reading the whole story all over again! Such great screenplay, script, everything!

Everyone’s argument to hate the movie is ”THE ENDING WAS LAME!!!111oneone”; but I’m pretty satisfied, I mean, the whole Dumbledore dying scene was exactly the same as in the book, and I quote…

“Severus… please…”

Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore.

“Avada Kedavra!”

A jet of green light shot from the end of Snape’s wand and hit Dumbledore squarely in the chest.

Harry’s scream of horror never left him; silent and unmoving, he was forced to watch as

Dumbledore was blasted into the air: for a split second he seemed to hang suspended beneath the

shining skull, and then he fell slowly backwards, like a great rag doll, over the battlements and

out of sight.”

It was brilliant! I really don’t have anything negative to point out about the movie. The movie was great, the company was great (Monique, Alessa, JD and Pepe) and, what can I say. Tonight was a great night.

I’m glad everything seems to be going alright. I feel peaceful. For some reason. And I like it.

Studying physics tomorrow, finals next week…

Hello, precious mutants!

I’m kind of nervous about starting a new blog, mainly because I get bored really easily. Let’s just hope this time I can stick to it. It really helps.
